WIPCE 2014 … The adventure continues

So after a few delays in the flight (four delay departing Brisbane & one hour delay departing Nadi) I finally arrived at 2am this morning. After an hour or so getting through customs, I found my way to the hotel. How good is it to be horizontal after so many hours sitting? Off to WIPC:E

So I’m off to WIPC:E next month. I finally go my airfare paid for. It’s the cheapest airfare, but I’m not worried. Of course, “cheap” means a 12 hours stopover on the way to Hawaii, and on the way back, I’m departing Hawaii for Brisbane via Christmas Island (yes. THE Christmas Island). But I’m not worried about the inconvenience. Getting the airfare has been half the battle, so the rest is insignificant. And I’m forever grateful for the accommodation that I’ve been given (bunking in with a friend) which has significantly reduced the cost for me.

Pinch and a punch – December 1

What a busy week. I was in Sydney for my first Viscopy meeting, where I’ve been appointed as an independent director. It’s a daunting and exciting opportunity. I’ve been interested in copyright, IP and cultural IP for ages. I taught about it in the Indigenous Art and Protocols course I convened at QCA years ago, so I’ve spent a lot of time getting my head around the topic. Not that I’m an expert at ALL. I’ think my biggest interest lies in being able to balance ACCESS copyrighted material (making sure images etc are accessible to everyone), with RECOGNITION (making sure creators are acknowledged and paid for their work).
